Police and the military were unable to produce Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake Butebi reportedly due to the legislator’s worrying health condition.

On Wednesday, deputy prime minister, also deputy leader of government business in parliament, Gen Moses Ali, told the MPs that Zaake and 32 others would be arraigned in Gulu Magistrate’s Court and the General Court Martial sitting in Gulu on Thursday.

The suspects are facing charges of treason, illegal possession of fire arms and damaging property.

The charges are connected to the chaos that  broke out in Arua after suspected Bobi Wine fans and supporters of now Arua Municipality MP-elect Kassiano Wadri Ezati reportedly attacked President Yoweri Museveni’s convoy, and pelted his luggage vehicle with stones.

Police and the elite Special Forces Command (SFC) soldiers fired tear gas and live bullets, some of which killed Yasin Kawuma, Bobi Wine’s driver.

On Thursday, zaake’s co-accused Wadri, MPs Gerald Karuhanga of Ntungamo Municipality and Paul Mwiru of Jinja East Municipality, as well as about 30 others appeared before a Gulu Magistrate’s Court and were remanded until August 30.

Later, Bobi Wine was arraigned before the General Court Martial sitting at Gulu Military Barracks.

Only Bobi Wine lawyers, Medard Lubega Sseggona, also the Busiro East MP, and Asuman Basalirwa, the Bugiri Municipality MP, were allowed in court.

Although Bobi Wine’s appearance has ended speculation of his possible murder, there is no clarity on Zaake’s condition.

It was Zaake’s torture claim, as shown by the photos that leaked on Wednesday, that made some expect the worst.

The photos show Zaake with a swollen head and face, a ‘bitten’ ear, and a bruised hand.

Almost all those that were detained have reported torture.

For example, Bobi Wine appeared with a swollen force while Shaban Atiku was unable to walk.

Two detained women,  Night Asara and Jane Abola were also in a worrying situation.

Night Asara was even appeared in court bleeding from her private parts.
