Besigye has described the land grab as ‘impunity’.

“UPDF has forcefully fenced off my titled land at Sunga and started developments despite all irrefutable evidence of ownership and protests,” said Besigye.

“NEC (MOD parastatal)  and “investors” said to be the developers. We shall overcome!”

According to Besigye’s aide, Ronald Muhinda, the regime was unhappy with Besigye campaign against government compulsory land acquisition.

Government argues that the process of acquiring land is difficult since people people inflate their land value when they know government needs it for projects.

“When President Kizza Besigye started #MyLandMyLife campaign, the junta was unhappy,” wrote Muhinda.

“In retaliation, the regime also started forcefully acquiring/grabbing his land at Sunga in Kyankwanzi district.”

Muhinda claims it is Nali director Brig David Kasula who “directed UPDF NEC to fence off hundreds of acres of Besigye’s titled Land with impunity”.

Besigye’s aide further claims that the people on the grabbed land “are now fenced inside Nali and attempts are being made to evict them”.

Land grabbing is commonplace in Uganda.

Three-decade president Yoweri Museveni instituted a commission to probe the matter.

The Catherine-Bamugemereire-led commission has already submitted their 19 recommendations on the matter.
