Police Opens Up on Meeting to Shut Down Nalufenya

“We need facilities like Nalufenya to deal with serious crimes, however, we must clean it up,” said Ofwono Opondo.

“We must ensure that Nalufenya and all police stations are run well, there shouldn’t be any torture or any abuse, that’s what Ochola must do, not only in Nalufenya but all detention facilities of the police.”

OFWONO OPONDO ON SHUTTING NALUEFENYA

But even before the Uganda Police can finally reach a common position, Ofwono Opondo thinks Nalufenya should not be shut but rather be cleaned up.

“Nalufenya is a police station, when we have serious crimes like terrorism, armed robberies, and things like that,” started Ofwono Opondo on Capital FM’s Capital Gang show Saturday.

“Do we need special police facilities? I think we do for purposes of containment and interrogation.”

Ofwono Opondo agreed that there were acts of torture at Nalufenya, and called for a ‘clean up” of the station — not a shut down.
