Kayihura Dragged to Court for Blocking Officer from Contesting for MP
Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Nelson Mungasa says he tendered in his resignation letter but Kayihura did not consider it.
Now the OC CID Bugoloobi Police station, Nelson Mungasa says he planned to stand for election as Tingeyi county MP in 2016.
Tigenyi is located in Kapchorwa district of Sebei region.
WHY AIP NELSON MUNGASA HAS SUED KAYIHURA
Mungasa accuses Mungasa of denying his request.
The officer says Kayihura usurped the powers of the police council — by rejecting his request without following the due process.
Mungasa argues that Kayihura violated his right to participate in the governance of Uganda.
He now wants Kayihura to pay damages for his unlawful action, the financial loss incurred and the psychological torture inflicted on him.
Mungasa’s lawyer Abdallah Kiwanuka says “Kayihura picked interest and sat on the file from reaching the police council”.
Kiwanuka accused Kayihrua of abuse of office.
On his part, Mungasa says Kayihura had “ignored” him “up to today” and “I have never received any correspondence”.
Kayihura was sacked at the start of March.
