Kayima: Attacking Museveni Convoy Unacceptable
President Yoweri Museveni’s official car was Monday night hit by suspected opposition supporters in Arua Municipality, after youths reportedly pelted stones at the convoy of the head-of-state.
President Museveni was in Arua to campaign for his ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Nusura Tiperu ahead of Wednesday’s byelection to replace slain Arua Municipality Ibrahim Abiriga who was shot at Kawanda, Wakiso in June.
In an audio statement issued late Monday night, police spokesperson Emilian Kayima said one of Museveni’s lead cars had been attacked by ‘hooligans’.
Museveni was getting out of Boma Grounds in Arua by the time of the attack.
Kayima said the people who hit Museveni’s car were clad in clothes with colors of Kassiano Wadri, an independent candidate.
“Security forces quickly intervened to calm down the situation as many were pelting stones to the convoy of the president, which is unacceptable,” said Kayima.
Wadri is being supported by Kyadondo East MP and musician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, an emerging political figure.
In the chaos, Bobi Wine’s driver Yasin Kawuma was shot dead in the MP’s car.
