Banned: No More Airtime Cards
Airtime cards will no longer be sold in Uganda starting August 1, regulator Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has announced.
Ugandans will now be using electronic payment options to buy airtime.
These will include Easy Load, PayWay and Pebuu.
“We hereby inform the general public that UCC has banned the use of scratch/airtime cards with effect from 31st July, 2018,” read part of a UCC press notice.
The ban comes on the heels of new taxes on mobile money and social media.
Reports had emerged that the cost of each airtime card had been increased by 10 per cent.
