Uganda's Museveni: Malaria is a Poor Man's Disease
Museveni spoke during the closure of mosquito net distribution in Uganda at Kabwohe playground in Sheema district on Saturday.
The mosquito net distribution launched a year ago ends today.
Government and partners have distributed over 20 million mosquito nets.
The last districts to receive the mosquito nets are Sheema, Mbarara, Kagadi, Bundibugyo and Kasese.

Speaking in Sheema, Museveni said: “Malaria is the disease of the poor and it is the leading cause of poverty in African countries”.
About 100,000 Ugandans succumb to malaria every year.

In 2016, Uganda’s Health Management Information System (HMIS) reported that 20 per cent to 34 per cent of outpatient visits were malaria cases.
And about 25 to 37 per cent of hospital admissions were for the same disease.
