‘Muntu to be Deployed on FDC Council of Elders’
There are plans to deploy Mugisha Muntu in opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party structures days after he lost his bid for reelection as president
Newly elected FDC president Patrick Amuriat says he Muntu “cannot be wished away”.
Amuriat takes over from Muntu who has been at the helm since 2012.
FDC is Uganda’s largest opposition political party.
AMURIAT: FDC CAN’T WISH MUNTU AWAY
Amuriat told NTV on Sunday that the party will deploy Muntu in its structures.
“We want him to keep around. He’s going to be deployed. None should wish him away,” Amuriat said.
Amuriat also revealed that he would “introduce a council of elders and founders to play an advisory role”.
It is hoped that Muntu will be deployed on this council.
There have been rumours that Muntu was planning to join forces with ex-premier Amama Mbabazi to form a party after last week’s defeat.
In a statement, Muntu said he would announce his next move “in coming days”.
