Mugisha Muntu Announces Way Forward Today
Former opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president Mugisha Muntu is set to announce his next course of action on Wednesday.
The announcement will come days after Muntu lost to former Kumi municipality MP Patrick Amuriat in the FDC presidential race.
Amuriat’s chances were boosted by the support of Uganda’s opposition kingpin Dr Kizza Besigye.
Besigye supporters blamed Muntu of being a moderate and a mole of Uganda’s president Yoweri Museveni. But Muntu denied the claims.
MUNTU TO ANNOUNCE WAY FORWARD
Last week, Muntu said he would announce his way forward in “the coming days”.
And on Tuesday he said he would address reporters in the capital Kampala.
“Fellow Ugandans, I would like to thank all of you for the great show of support for the pursuit of democracy as well as our concerted and continuing struggle for a better Uganda.
“I will be holding a press conference tomorrow at 10am at Hotel Africana. God bless you all,” Muntu wrote on Tuesday.
It remains unclear what Muntu’s next course of action will be.
Pundits have predicted that Muntu could exit FDC.
Some even went as far as suggesting that he had met ex-premier Amama Mbabazi on a possible coalition and formation of a new political party.
Amuriat has suggested that Muntu could be deployed on the Council of FDC Elders that will soon be constituted.
