Robert Mugabe will attend Friday’s inauguration of his former deputy Emmerson Mnangagwa, reports Zimbabwe state broadcaster ZBC TV.

On Friday, Mnangagwa will take oath as president.

Mugabe resigned on Tuesday after military takeover last week.

Earlier on Sunday, Mugabe had refused to step down.

But Mnangagwa called on his former boss to retire immediately.

Mnangagwa has the backing of the military and ruling Zanu-PF party.

A fortnight ago, Mugabe sacked Mnangagwa, reportedly to pave way for wife Grace to succeed him.

Mnangagwa vowed to end Mugabe rule in a few weeks. Which he did.

The Mnangagwa inauguration will happen at the National Sports Stadium in the capital Harare.

Mnangagwa returned from South Africa on Wednesday.

He met Zanu-PF supporters and leaders.

Mugabe will attend Mnangagwa’s inauguration.

The nonagenarian will inspect the parade for the last time as president.
