Kayihura on Having Presidential Ambitions: I'm a Loyal Cadre

The reports were initially attributed to fired security minister Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde.

Tumukunde had, reportedly, told Museveni that Kayihura planned to use his 11 million crime preventers to realise his dream.

That was in early 2017, as Kayihura fought to defend his reappointment.

Aware of the Tumukunde-Kayihura feud, and given the fact that elections were behind him, Museveni ignored Tumukunde’s claims.

Recently, crime preventers’ leader Blaise Kamugisha said Kayihura had no intentions of running for president.

“I am a loyal soldier of the UPDF, a loyal cadre of the struggle and that is what I will remain,” said Kayihura.

WHAT DOES KAYIHURA SAY ABOUT HIS REPORTED PRESIDENTIAL AMBITION

On Thursday, Kayihura handed over to his successor Inspector General of Police and former deputy Martin Okoth Ochola.

Kayihura use the handover ceremony to clear the air on the reported presidential ambition.

He ‘renewed’ his loyalty to Museveni, ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the military.

“I am a loyal soldier of the UPDF, a loyal cadre of the struggle and that is what I will remain,” said Kayihura.

“The struggle continues…”

Kayihura further praised Museveni for giving him an opportunity to serve.

“I will forever be indebted to the Commander in Chief and the President for his trust and giving me the opportunity to serve my country in this capacity,” continued Kayihura

“He has promoted me through the ranks and that’s not a small achievement.”
