JANET MUSEVENI ON ONESIMUS TWINAMASIKO WIFE BEATING COMMENTS
“This battle is not against men but against any forms of injustices that stop women from realizing their dreams,” said Janet Museveni.
Janet Museveni’s comments comes as outrage continues over MP Onesimus Twinamasiko’s comments that men should beat their women.
During Women’s Day Celebrations last week, President Yoweri Museveni said men who beat their wives are fools and cowards.
Museveni also said he has never beaten Janet in about 50 years.
The president said whenever the first lady annoys him, he just walks away.
Janet Museveni, also education minister, said education was vital in the fight against sexual and gender-based violence.
On her part US ambassador Deborah Malac said: “We need to educate boys and men from an early age that violence against girls is not right..”
“… that it won’t be tolerated, & that there will be legal consequences for perpetrators.”
At the conference, chief justice Bart Katureebe said the judiciary was contemplating instituting a special court to try gender violence perpetrators.
