Recently, Ochola officially took office from sacked IGP Gen Kale Kayihura.

Ochola was Kayihura’s deputy.

But Museveni sent Kayihura packing after 12 years due to rising insecurity and a feud with then security minister Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde.

Ochola has since reversed some of Kayihura’s recent appointments.

Ochola has merged a number of units, putting some under others.

Ochola made the changes in a statement he issued on March 18.

The IGP has since ordered the human resource department to formalise the restructuring with the public service ministry.

The police chief has combined the directorates of oil and gas with that of counter terrorism to form the divison of oil and gas.

Ochola named Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Agapitus Ecotu  the division’s operations officer.

The Flying Squad returns to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Crime Intelligence (CID).

CID will also supervise the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Criminal Case File Tracking Task Force (CCTF), and Surveillance and Special Operations.

Cyber Crime Unit will return to the Directorate of Forensic Services.

The Directorate of Operations will manage the Territorial Police Command (both Regional and District/Division).

The same directorate will also head specialised units: Canine, Police Air wing, Railway Police, and Environmental Protection Police.

Others under this unit are Marine, Agricultural Police, Mineral Protection Police, Presidential Protection Group.
