Former Deputy Chief Justice Laeticia Kikonyogo is Dead
Retired deputy Chief Justice, Laeticia Kikonyogo has passed on, the judiciary has announced.
Laeticia Kikonyogo died at the age of 77.
Kikonyogo was born on September 2, 1940.
She was Uganda’s deputy chief justice.
She succumbed to a heart attack on her way to the Mulago medical school at about 12.30 noon, according to Judiciary publicist Solomon Muyita.
Her family rushed her to Namulundu Health Centre in Kajjansi.
The medics here referred her to Mulago Medical School.
She never had heart complications, said her husband Joseph Kyagulanyi Kikonyogo.
She only suffered from Parkinson disease, he added.

She was also the first Ugandan woman Grade I magistrate, a position she held between 1971-1973.
Later on, she became the first female Chief Magistrate, serving between 1973-1986.
She was also the first woman to be appointed High Court judge in 1986.
She would then move through the ranks to the become the first female justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda.
She would later be appointed deputy chief justice, the first woman to hold the position.
