Detained Kassiano Wadri Leads NRM’s Nusura Tiperu, FDC’s Musema
Imprisoned Kassiano Wadri Shocks NRM
Former Terego county MP and independent candidate Kassiano Wadri Ezati is close to winning Wednesday’s Arua Municipality byelection even when he was not allowed to vote for himself.
Kassiano Wadri has been in detention since Monday evening when he was arrested following after a chaotic end to the election campaigns, in which President Yoweri Museveni’s motorcade was attacked and his luggage vehicle stoned.
Yasin Kawuma, a driver to Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi, was also shot dead by police and the elite Special Forces Command (SFC) operatives.
Now preliminary results from the byelection to replace slain MP Ibrahim Abiriga indicate that Wadri stands higher chances of winning the election.
By publication time, Wadri was ahead of his closest rival, Nusura Tiperu of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
The MP beat all his 11 competitors in 31 Mvara Ward polling stations, at Niva Cell polling stations, Awindiri, Junior quarters and at River Oli headquarters polling station and three Bazaar Ward polling stations.
