Besigye: Mugisha Muntu is not Museveni’s Mole
Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president Dr Kizza Besigye has said his successor Mugisha Muntu is not spying for President Yoweri Museveni in the party.
Some people in FDC, especially those linked to Besigye, have previously claimed Muntu is a mole for three-decade president Museveni.
The accusations spring from Muntu’s non-militaristic character, and his emphasis on compliance and building of institutions.
The pro-Besigye faction believe in defiance.
The allegations cost Muntu the FDC presidency.
There were also claims that FDC deputy president for eastern Uganda, Salaamu Musumba, was also a mole.
BESIGYE: MUNTU NOT A MOLE
Appearing on Thursday night show on NTV, Besigye said some people also call him a mole.
“I have been called a mole right from when I decided to campaign against Museveni in 2001,” said Besigye.
He added that he has known Muntu for long — at Makerere University and in the NRA bush war days — Muntu and was convinced he was not a mole.
“I do not believe that Gen Mugisha Muntu is a mole,” said Besigye.
“I respect Gen Muntu and I would not call him a mole.”
