Amuriat Fires Back at Ofwono Opondo
Newly elected opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president Patrick Amuriat has hit back at government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo.
Opondo had scoffed at FDC’s choice of Amuriat wondering how a party could pick a man who had lost a parliamentary seat.
Amuriat takes over from Muntu who has been at the helm since 2012. He will be the third president of 12-year old FDC after Kizza Besigye and Muntu.
FDC is Uganda’s largest opposition political party.
AMURIAT TO OPONDO
But Amuriat has fired back at Opondo saying the government and ruling NRM mouthpiece had no right to talk about politics.
Amuriat questioned Opondo’s understanding of opposition politics, adding that Opondo was just a man favoured to be in his current role.
He also dared Opondo to go for any elective position.
“Ofwono Opondo has never vied for any political position,” Amuriat told NTV on Sunday.
“He should not talk about what goes on in the trenches of political opposition.”
He reminded Opondo that “I have won three consecutive times”.
