2 Musicians Jailed for Disturbing Museveni’s Peace by Telling Him to Retire
A court in Kampala, Uganda has sent two musicians, Jonah Muwanguzi and David Mugema, to prison for telling three-decade President Yoweri Museveni to retire.
Muwanguzi and Mugema appeared before Buganda Road magistrates court on Tuesday.
Grade one magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu charged Muwanguzi and Mugema with offensive communication contrary to section 25 of the Computer Misuse Act.
According to prosecution, Muwanguzi and Mugema wilfully composed, recorded, produced and electronically circulated through social media a song titled ‘Wumula (Retire)’.
Prosecution alleges that the musicians used the song recorded between 2015 and 2017 at Salama road in Makindye division to attack Museveni — by telling him to retire .
Prosecution also accuses the singers of disturbing Museveni’s peace using the song.
Kamasanyu denied the two musicians bail because the state prosecutor was absent.
Kamasanyu sent the duo to Luzira. They will return to court on Wednesday.
