What Sudhir Ruparelia Told Bamugemereire on Kololo SS Sports Ground Controversy
Billionaire Dr Sudhir Ruparelia on Thursday gave his side of the story regarding the Kololo SS sports ground until outstanding legal issues are resolved.
Sudhir Ruparelia appeared before the Land Probe Commission led by Catherine Bamugemereire.
Bamugemeire is known for grilling feared tycoons, military officers and politicians.
Bamugemereire tasked Sudhir to explain how he acquired the land.
SUDHIR RUPARELIA TELLS BAMUGEMEREIRE ON HOW HE ACQUIRED THE LAND
Sudhir told the Bamugemereire commission sitting in Kampala that he had applied for a lease from the Uganda Land Commission (ULC).
The lease would later be extended from five to 99 years.
The tycoon said he wanted to develop the sports ground into a world class sports centre.
“I am going to build the sports facility for the benefit of Ugandans present and those who will come after them,” said Sudhir.
“The facility will stay even after everyone here and even I, have died.”
Sudhir further told the commission that he had enough money to transform the sports ground.
“I am not a hustler nor a land broker,” said the billionaire.
“I have the capacity to put up a superior sports facility.”
But Kololo SS administrators on Wednesday said Sudhir had not consulted them on the takeover.
Sudhir‘s lease and role in Kololo SS land was also okayed by junior sports minister Charles Bakkabulindi and then minister for the Presidency, Frank Tumwebaze.
“Government expressly earmarked this particular piece of land for a sports ground,” said Sudhir.
“The ones for school expansion were given away by Kololo SS itself.”
WHICH LAND TITLE?
Meanwhile, the land has two titles, from the ULC.
Sudhir denied knowledge of the land title owned by Kololo SS which puts the land in question plot 62-68 on Lugogo Bypass.
The title in Sudhir’s hands puts the piece of land on plot 8-12.
SUDHIR: I SAVE KOLOLO SS SPORTS GROUND FROM LAND GRABBERS
Sudhir further told the commission that he took over the land to save the school from more land grabbers.
“I was concerned,” said Sudhir.
“The school was going to lose another plot. It was the only remaining piece of land.”
Sudhir further ‘named’ Kololo SS land grabbers: Nanjing Hotel, Kensington Africa and Cecilia Lwanga.
“Six plots had been parceled out to developers,” continued the tycoon.
“If I had not moved fast, the school was going to lose this plot as well.”
