UPDF Says Kayihura Lawyers, Family Members Allowed to Access Him; Motive of Arrest, Interrogation Yet to be Revealed
Army Confirms Kayihura is Detained at Makindye Military Barracks
Kayihura was airlifted from his farmhouse in Kashagama, Lyantonde district on Wednesday.
He was taken to Military General Headquarters Mbuya where he was grilled for hours before being taken to Makindye Barracks where he spent a night.
On Thursday, he was returned to Mbuya for day two of grilling by top security chiefs.
In a statement by defence spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire, the army has confirmed that Kayihura “is currently at Makindye Military Barracks and accessible by his immediate family as well as lawyers”.
Karemire’s statement issued on Thursday did not reveal the motive of the general’s arrest, saying the former IGP “is being questioned on a matter the details of which cannot at this point be divulged”.
But the statement seems to point to more than questioning.
It seems like an investigation of sorts.
The army promised “to keep you informed about any other developments regarding the matter”.
