UPDF Mourns Fallen South Sudan Army Chief

Karemire: Gen James Ajongo Mawut was Selfless

Ugandan army UPDF has joined the region mourning fallen Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) chief Gen James Ajongo Mawut.

James Ajongo Mawut passed on Friday morning in Cairo, Egypt.

He had been flown to Cairo for treatment.

South Sudan President Salva Kiir praised  Gen James Ajongo Mawut.

“He served his nation with dedication and honour and shall be remembered as a hero,” said Kiir.

Kiir also declared three days of mourning.

In a statement, UPDF spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire said “UPDF joins SPLA comrades and the EAC Fraternity to mourn the untimely death of Gen James Ajongoo Mawut”.

“We salute him for the selfless contribution he made as a freedom fighter,” Karemire added.
