Tumukunde: Museveni Could Re-Appoint Me Cabinet Minister Anytime
Tumukunde: Museveni Didn't Sack Me for Being Incompetent
Former security minister Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde is confident three-decade president Yoweri Museveni could re-appoint him to cabinet anytime.
Over two months ago, Museveni sacked Tumukunde and replaced him with Gen Elly Tumwine as security minister.
In the same shakeup, Museveni also relieved Gen Kale Kayihura of his duties as Uganda Police chief after he had served for over a decade.
But Tumukunde had just spent 21 in office as security minister.
His appointment had been preceded by years of disagreement between him and Museveni.
Tumukunde would be appointed in 2016 after campaigning for Museveni.
Yet his feud with Kayihura cost both of them their jobs.
Tumukunde: I Could Bounce Back as Minister
But Tumukunde is now confident Museveni could appoint him minister anytime.
Tumukunde told is quoted as telling Daily Monitor that his sacking was not hinged on incompetence.
“It can’t have been because I am incompetent,” Tumukunde is reported as saying.
“I can come back to Cabinet anytime.”
He also requested that Museveni “be allowed space to maneuver and I can also tell you that there are so many options in politics”.
