Controversy as Sheema North MP and Minister Elioda Tumwesigye is Nominated for Municipality Seat without Resigning
Minister in charge of science, technology and innovation Dr Elioda Tumwesigye has been nominated to contest in the Sheema Municipality MP election even when he has not resigned his ministerial position.
Tumwesigye is the elected MP for Sheema North but is now seeking election for the newly created Sheema Municipality MP seat.
But David Kamukama is seeking to block Tumwesigye’s nomination.
Barya, Byamugisha & Co. Advocates are representing Kamukama.
Kamukama argues that Tumwesigye flouted Section 4 (4) (a) of the parliamentary Elections Act 2005.
NRM Deputy Electoral Commission Chairman John Arimpa Kyigagi had sought for the opinion of national EC Chairman, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi in a letter dated May 7, 2018.
Tumwesigye will now face off with other candidates, including Jonas Tumwine, Jonathan Bongonzya, Nkwasiibwe Kataate, Cadre Mucunguzi, and former Sheema District Woman MP Rosemary Nyakikongoro.
