Parliament to Hold Special Sitting to Pay Tribute to Abiriga on Sunday
Abiriga's Body to Lie in State on Sunday
Uganda’s Parliament will hold a special sitting to mourn fallen Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga on Sunday following the legislator’s murder on Friday.
Abiriga was assassinated at 6:45pm on Friday by yet-to-be-identified assailants at 6:45pm.
The Clerk to Parliament has invited MPs for the event that will take place on a day parliament is rarely expected to convene.
Abiriga was a Muslim and his burial would have happened on Saturday had the state not requested the family to allow for the slain legislator’s body to lie in state.
“Members of Parliament that there will be a special sitting on Sunday, 10 June 2018 at 9am to pay tribute to the late Arua Municipality MP, Hon Ibrahim Abiriga,” read a statement by parliament.
“The body of the late will be brought to the House.”
