Operation Wealth Creation: Gen Salim Saleh Sacks 54 UPDF Soldiers
The Fired Soldiers Have Been Sent Back to UPDF for Redeployment
The coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), Gen Salim Saleh (Caleb Akandwanaho), has fired UPDF 54 soldiers for being incompetent in executing the work of the programme aimed at driving poverty out of households.
Gen Saleh is also a junior brother to Uganda’s three-decade president Yoweri Museveni.
The sacked soldiers are between the ranks of captain and brigadier.
According to Saleh’s deputy, Lt Gen Charles Angina, OWC has identified new officers to replace the fired ones and fill vacancies in the new districts.
In total, some 102 soldiers will take up jobs in the OWC programme.
New faces in the OWC will include: former Kasese District chairperson Maj Gen John Mateeka, Col Dura Mawa, and Col Phinekas Mugyenyi.
OWC insists the replacement of the 54 officers had been informed by an evaluation of their work.
