The director of public prosecutions has withdrawn charges against artiste David Mugema and his producer Jonah Muwanguzi for relating to their ‘Mzee Wumula’ song calling for the retirement of three-decade president Yoweri Museveni.

Mugema and Muwanguzi had appeared at Buganda Road Court for hearing of their case.

Police arrested the duo in In December 2017 in the heat of the age limit debate.

In court, Grade one magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu charged Muwanguzi and Mugema with offensive communication contrary to section 25 of the Computer Misuse Act.

In their song titled ‘[Museveni] Wumula’, producer Jonah Muwanguzi and musician David Mugema tell three-decade president Museveni to retire.

Prosecution had alleged that the song disturbed Museveni’s peace by wilfully composing, recording, producing and electronically circulating the song through social media.

But months later, prosecution has failed to gather enough evidence to continue with the case.

The DPP has since written to court to withdraw the charges.

This is the second case the DPP is withdrawing in just one week.

The DPP has also cleared socialite Brian White of attempted murder charges.
