Kyambogo University Finalizes Deal to Import 15 Cuban Lecturers
Kyambogo University: Cuban Lecturers to Turn Around Engineering School
Kyambogo University, one of Uganda’s largest public universities, says it has finalised a plan to import lecturers from Cuban to help turn around the institution’s engineering department.
The university says it will pay each of the 15 lecturers Shs 7m every month.
Kyambogo deputy vice chancellor in charge of Finance, Prof Fabian Nabugwomu, was responding to claims by Luuka South MP Steven Kisa Bakubalwayo on reports that the university planned to import Cuban doctors.
Prof Nabugwomu was one of the administrators from the nine public universities that had come to Parliament’s education committee to explain the issue of catering services for government sponsored students.
Nabugwomu then told the committee that Kyambogo lacked the required human resource in the engineering department.
A deal has already been reached between Kyambogo and the Cuban government to have the lecturers imported.
Recently, an explanation by President Yoweri Museveni on importing Cuban doctors sparked social media noise.
