Kayihura in Day Two of Grilling at Mbuya after Spending Night at Makindye
Kayihura Reportedly Being Grilled over Wave of Insecurity
Former police chief Gen Kale Kayihura spent his first night in detention in many years following his arrest from his farmhouse in Kashagama, Lyantonde district.
A UPDF helicopter picked Kayihura from his Lyantonde home on Wednesday.
Kayihura had been in Lyantonde since his sacking in March 2018.
The arrest had earlier been treated as a summon for a meeting with Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen David Muhoozi.
“[On] 12th June, 2018, he [Kayihura] was asked to report to the UPDF Chief of Defence Forces Gen David Muhoozi at General Headquarters — Mbuya,” said UPDF spokesperson in a statement issued Wednesday afternoon.
But at Mbuya, Kayihura appeared before, not only Muhoozi, but a panel of top security officers who awaited him.
Kayihura would reportedly later be grilled over heinous crimes including murders.
The grilling ended Wednesday evening.
He was taken to Makindye Military Barracks where he spent the night.
Thursday morning, Kayihura was returned to Mbuya for further questioning.
