Contract Cancelled: IGG Mulyagonja ‘Chases’ Prophet Elvis Mbonye from Lugogo Cricket Oval
IGG: Prophet Elvis Mbonye Lugogo Cricket Oval Contract Irregular; Money Mismanaged
Inspector General of Government (IGG) Irene Mulyagonja has directed the National Council of Sport (NCS) to cancel its contract with Prophet Elvis Mbonye of Zoe Fellowship Ministries.
Mulyagonja issued her directive to NCS chairperson in June 5 letter titled The Systemic Review of Operations and Management of National Council of Sports.
The IGG noted Prophet Elvis Mbonye’s prophetic gatherings worked to the “detriment and prejudice of the state of the grounds and ultimately the activities of Uganda Cricket Association (UCA)”.
She also noted that it was almost impossible for cricket teams to find other grounds to adequately prepare for tournament since they had access to Lugogo Cricket Oval only thrice a week.
“Unlike Zoe fellowship which can find another place for worship, cricketers cannot play the game in any place of worship,” wrote Mulyagonja.
UCA has used Lugogo Cricket Oval since 1966.
Mulyagonja also tells the NCS chairman that “it is alleged that the grounds had been contracted out without due regard to legal requirements for procurement and disposal of public assets”.
There were also challenges with accountability of funds from the contract.
“This is therefore to direct you to suspend the operation/implementation of the aforementioned contract with ZOE Fellowship Ministries for the use of Lugogo Cricket Oval pending investigations of the circumstances upon which the contract was entered and the management of the proceeds arising therefrom,” directed Mulyagonja.
