I Won’t Be the First One to be Arrested: Kayihura Opens Up on Reports of His Arrest, Detention in Kololo
Kayihura Reportedly Arrested, Detained
Sacked former Inspector General of Uganda Police Gen Kale Kayihura has spoken out on reports that he had been arrested on Tuesday in Lyantonde district.
Reports had circulated on social media that Uganda’s longest serving police chief had been arrested — not by police officers, but by top army generals.
Social media reports had claimed that Kayihura had been picked from Lyantonde and was being held in Kololo in Kampala.
Three-decade president Yoweri Museveni is yet to deploy Kayihura and former security minister Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde since their sacking in March.
Kayihura Speaks Out on Arrest Rumours
Kayihura is now being reported as telling government daily The New Vision that he was yet to be arrested.
He said he had first read of his arrest on social media.
And, even if I was arrested, he added, I would not be the first one.
It was not readily clear what sparked off the rumours of Kayihura arrest.
But some pundits are linking him to the current wave of insecurity that started during his tenure.
Meanwhile, other sources claim, Kayihura is due to meet Commander of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen David Muhoozi.
The Pearl Times could not readily verify these claims.
