Reverend’s Daughter, Boyfriend Detained for Kidnapping themselves
Police Flying Squad operatives have arrested two people who feigned their own kidnap to con a West Ankole diocese reverend.
The duo is detained at Central Police Station in Kampala.
Peace Ansimiire, 19, a daughter to Rev Fred Muhwezi and her boyfriend, Julius Atwebembeire, 22, feigned their kidnap from Bushenyi district.
But Flying squad operatives nabbed them in Kasubi, Rubaga Division.
Police has charged Ansimiire and Atwebembeire with obtaining money by false pretence, under case file number SD REF. 07/22/04/2018.
But Atwebembeire faces another charge of electronic fraud after it was discovered that he was running a fake Facebook page ‘Hillmark Consultants’ “claiming to help secure jobs for unemployed people in Canada”.
The duo had planned to con Ansimiire’s parents of Shs 3.5m as ransom.
They also wanted to run to Kenya where they had planned to start a craft shoes shop.
Ansimiire’s parents had sent Shs 750,000.
Police recovered Shs 250,000 of this sum.
The rest of the money, Ansimiire and Atwebembeire said, had been used to buy a smart phone.
