Family: Obote Cousin Nekyon was Killed in Hotel, He Didn’t Die at Nsambya Hospital
Obote Family Treating Nekyon Demise as Murder
The family of Akbar Adoko Nekyon, a fallen former minister and cousin to former president Apollo Milton Obote, has written to police asking the force to investigate the death of their relative.
Nekyon passed on last Friday and was laid to rest at the weekend.
But Nekyon’s family the first president of the National Association for the Advancement of Muslims (Naam) did not die of natural causes.
The family has now written to the Director Criminal Investigations Department to probe into the death of the former tourism minister.
On May 8, the family lawyers of Makmot Kibwanga and company advocates wrote to CID to inform the department of the “mysterious’ demise of their relative.
“The late Haji Akbar Adoko Nekyon died under mysterious circumstances from a hotel room in the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala and was falsely stated that he had died from Nsambya hospital,” the family wrote to police.
Nekyon’s family point to the disappearance of one of the former minister’s guards.
“All the time of his life he was guarded by at least two police officers and that one officer called Ogwang Jimmy is under arrest and detained in a secret place,” claim Nekyon’s family.
They also suspect that some prominent family members could have had a hand in Nekyon’s death as a way of taking over his property.
