Date for Kiir-Machar Meeting Announced
Sudan's Bashir to Host Kiir-Machar Meeting
There is a glimmer of hope in the calls for peace talks between South Sudan president Salva Kiir and sacked former vice president Riek Machar after the announcement of tentative dates.
At a recent meeting in Adis Ababa, Ethiopia, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) proposed that Machar and Kiir meet.
Sudan’s ambassador to South Sudan Adil Ibrahim Mustafa has revealed that the meeting, to be attended by Ethiopia Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, could happen after Eid al-Fitr.
Sudan President Omar al-Bashir will host two South Sudan principals.
“The meeting in Khartoum will take place after Eid al-Fitr, so it will be between 19 to 24 June,” said Mustafa.
“Arrangements are in place to invite President Salva Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar for the face-to-face meeting.”
