Court Throws Out District Chairman over Corruption Record
Court: Corrupt Adea Ouma Unfit to Lead
Fresh elections will be held in Busia district after the court of appeal kicked LC5 chairman Adea Ouma from office over corruption record.
Three judges of the court Remmy Kasule, Kenneth Kakuru and Geoffrey Kiryabwire ruled that Adea Ouma’s election flouted Section 46 of the Anti-corruption Act — since the district leader was a convict.
About six years ago, Adea Ouma was convicted by the Anti-corruption for corruption and abuse of office.
Then, court was convinced that Adea Ouma had solicited and received a Shs 2m bribe.
He was fined and barred from standing for- or holding public office for a decade.
Adea lost an appeal in the High Court in 2014 and has lost another in the Court of Appeal today.
The Electoral Commission will now organise a fresh election.
