Five Killed in Ibanda Bus Accident involving Congolese Refugees
A road accident involving a Baby Coach bus transporting refugees has overturned, killing five people and injuring over 20 others, in Ibanda district.
The injured have been transferred to Mbarara Hospital.
At least 10 buses were ferrying Congolese refugees to the Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement.
But one of these got involved in an accident at Ruhoko-Kirimilire near Ibanda Municipality.
Eye witnesses said the driver of the bus rammed into a pavement as he tried to avoid knocking down a motorcyclist.
Ibanda DPC SP Rogers Chebene attributed the accident to reckless driving.
The driver of the Baby Coaches bus failed to negotiate a corner due to over speeding.
Chebene added that the driver then lost control and rammed the vehicle into a pavement before it overturned severally.
