Abiriga’s Body Taken to His Ancestral Home after Chaotic Return
Abiriga to Be Laid to Rest Today
Security officers have finally taken the body of slain Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga to his ancestral home in Lukudu Village, Eramva Parish, Rhino Camp Sub County in Lower Madi Constituency, Arua District.
The body was taken from Anyafiyo Residence to Abiriga’s home at Rhino Camp about 4am.
Prayers that were scheduled to happen at Arua Primary School have been cancelled.
Sunday afternoon, Abiriga’s body was flown from Kololo to Arua.
But chaos greeted the return of the bodies of both Abiriga and his brother Saidi Kongo Buga at Arua airfield at around 5pm.
The locals demanded Abiriga’s and Kongo’s bodies, and an explanation on the death of their MP.
After a scuffle with security and A Plus funeral services, the locals carried the bodies.
Teargas and live bullets were also fired.
Earlier on Sunday, parliament held a special sitting in which MPs eulogized Abiriga after prayers at Old Kampala Mosque.
Abiriga will be laid to rest today, Monday.
President Yoweri Museveni is expected to be the chief mourner.
